-It’s a special way to provide an experience to those who don’t get to hear live music anymore.

Concerts in Care by the Health Arts Society of Alberta (HASA) is helping to give those living in long term care or retirement homes a unique experience this holiday season.  Albertans can buy or donate a live concert with professional musicians for $300 and those living at the home will be treated to a 45-minute performance.

“Some of our audience members are life-long music lovers who are no longer physically able to attend concerts in the community but can fully explain the magnitude of what it means to them; others, often living with dementia, may not be able to put into words what the concerts mean to them, but will sing along with familiar melodies, laugh or even cry.” said Meran Currie-Roberts, the executive and artistic director of HASA.  The performers come from a wide variety of backgrounds that include: jazz, opera and folk.

“Music has a way of reaching beyond age, disability or language. We are grateful for the many Albertans who are stepping up to help bring music to those who need it most.”

The HASA says over 300 concerts are performed each year across the province thanks to the kindness of Albertans.
