Monica Pfau, piano
Pianist Monica Pfau is equally comfortable as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. In addition to having performed throughout Canada, the U.S., Germany and Sweden, Monica has recorded for CBC Radio and the National Film Board of Canada, and has performed as orchestral pianist with both the Vancouver Symphony and the CBC Radio Orchestra. The University of British Columbia awarded her a Doctoral Fellowship for study, and that same year she was the recipient of a German Academic Exchange Scholarship to the Munich Hochschule fur Musik. During her two seasons as accompanist-in-residence at the Banff Centre, Monica appeared in recital with several international artists, including Janos Starker and the Fine Arts Quartet. This was followed by her prize-winning performance at the UBC Concerto Competition and her subsequent orchestral debut with Maestro Kazuyoshi Akiyama. Praised for her tonal warmth and sensitivity, Ms. Pfau is much in demand as a chamber music partner by many of Vancouver's leading performers. She maintains an active teaching and performing schedule in Victoria.
