Bio
Fiona Yu [piano] began her musical studies in Hong Kong at the age of five. She completed the ARCT Performer’s Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music with First Class Honor Distinction at the tender age of 14. In 2001, she was a winner at the Seattle Young Artists Music Festival; performed with the Philharmonic Northwest in Seattle; placed first in the Canadian Music Competition, both provincially and nationally, and was invited to perform with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra at the Gala Concert. Since then, Fiona has continued to win trophies and scholarships, and has performed in recitals of the Vancouver Women’s Musical Society, the Canadian Vocal and Performing Arts Society, the Clef Society of Burnaby, Cornell Piano Society, and the Vancouver Recital Society.
Fiona placed first, both provincially and nationally in the 2003 Canadian Music Competition, receiving top marks. In the same year, she performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. In 2006, her performance as part of the celebration of Mozart’s 250th birthday was broadcast live on the radio. Currently, she is the Events Coordinator of the Cornell Piano Society and teaches piano part-time. In addition to her piano studies, Fiona plays the violin and the guitar.
Aside from her musical studies, she is a member of the Canadian National Table Tennis Team and BC Provincial Table Tennis Team. She has won numberous titles in national and international competitions such as the Canada Winter Games, Canada Summer Games, World Junior Championships.
