AYELET ROSE GOTTLIEB, vocals
Ayelet Rose Gottlieb began singing jazz as a teen in her home-town of Jerusalem. Saxophone-Master Arnie Lawrence (who played with Lisa Minnelli, Dizzy Gillespie and many others) who was living there at the time, adopted her into his band and toured with her across Israel as well as the West Bank. In 1999, Ayelet moved to Boston to complete her music education at New England Conservatory. After completing her education, Ayelet moved to New York City, her “music-home” to this day. In New York Ayelet had the privilege of performing with some of the most cutting edge musicians of our times, including saxophonist Joe Lovano, clarinettist Paquito D’Rivera and vocalist Bobby McFerrin (with whom she performed at Carnegie Hall). At once cutting-edge and rooted in tradition, her vibrant vocal stylings are shape-shifting mélanges of textures and rhythms. A frequent collaborator of forward-thinking composer John Zorn, Ayelet performs both original works and familiar repertoire that she re-imagines via her one-of-a-kind sensibility.
