Kelby MacNayr, drums/vocals
Drummer/composer/band-leader Kelby MacNayr is a dynamic performer and educator based in Victoria. An active member of the West Coast’s fertile music scene, MacNayr performs across North America in jazz, new music and world music. In 2013 he released The Measure of Light, a live quintet recording of original music featuring saxophonist Phil Dwyer, trumpet player Daniel Lapp, pianist Miles Black and bassist Tom Wakeling. The critically-acclaimed album has been featured on national radio in the US, Canada and Europe. MacNayr has shared the stage with some of the greats in jazz including Ingrid Jensen, John Clayton, Neil Swainson, Ian McDougall, Wynton Marsalis, Geoff Keezer and more. A renowned composer and artistic director, MacNayr has led choirs, composed for opera, modern dance and acted as artistic director for numerous concert series. MacNayr serves as on the faculty of the Centrum Jazz Port Townsend Festival since 2009, the University of Idaho’s Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and numerous jazz and composition programs.
