Bio
KATHRYN NICHOLSON
Kathryn Nicholson is a dynamic choral conductor and an irrepressible spirit who inspires choir and audience members alike with her joy and enthusiasm. As a music therapist, she has often witnessed and experienced the extraordinary power of singing to promote health, healing and happiness. Kathryn received her vocal training at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto and has sung with the Canadian Opera Company Chorus, Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, National Arts Centre Cantata Singers and Pandora's Vox women's ensemble. She was a vocal instructor at Capilano University for several years and has an extensive background in choral conducting. She was Music Director at the North Shore Unitarian Church for 15 years, after which she conducted the acclaimed Universal Gospel Choir for 7 years. Kathryn is now the Artistic Director of Sound Eclectic, a local 22-voice vocal jazz ensemble and she also sings with Vancouver's EnChor.
A former registered nurse, Kathryn holds a Master of Music degree in Music Therapy and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor. She worked for many years at the BC Cancer Agency and Canuck Place Children's Hospice. In addition to her leadership of The Helena Choir, she works part-time in family counselling and program development at Vancouver Hospice.
