Bio
Pianist Kelly Charlton is an active performer as recitalist and collaborative pianist in England, France, Germany and Canada; he is much sought after as an accompanist and vocal coach. Mr. Charlton performed for many years in London as conductor and harpsichordist for the Renaissance chamber choir ‘The New Friends’ Musick’ which he founded in 1990, and as Musical Director for ‘Shakespeare Celebrations,’ a popular theatre company whose performances combine Shakespeare’s texts with thoughtful and innovative music, some of which are his own compositions. Since his return to Canada in 2006 he has performed as pianist and chamber musician with and a variety of musicians in various recital series and summer academies. A dedicated teacher, a number of his students have entered the profession as teachers and performers. Mr. Charlton has recently joined the Piano Faculty at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and, in addition to his studio, he is very involved with the Teacher Training programs there. He is also a faculty member of the Victoria Piano Summer School and is active as an adjudicator and clinician. Mr. Charlton is also the Assistant to the Director of Music at Christ Church Cathedral and coordinator for the Summer Recital Series.
