Bio
Flutist Catharine Dochstader holds degrees from the University of Western Ontario. She completed her education certification in Ontario and has taught there as well as in the province of British Columbia. She moved to Kamloops in late 1979 and she started playing in the Kamloops Symphony shortly thereafter. Cathy has performed in both the Main Series and Chamber Music programmes of the KSO, as well as playing in small ensembles with other KSO members. Through the support of the Health Arts Society she and fellow musicians have performed for those unable to attend concerts. Cathy finds performing for these audiences is a very emotional and rewarding experience. In addition to a performing career, she has been involved in many different organizations including the University Women’s Club, the Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts, School District #73 (providing masterclasses for flute students) and the Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music. Although retired as principal flutist of the Kamloops Symphony Cathy continues to teach flute to students of all ages at the Kamloops Symphony Music School. In her spare time she works out at a local gym, gardens, hikes the beautiful hills of Kamloops and kayaks in the local lakes.
