Born in Tokyo, Japan, and receiving her formal training there, Masako Hockey [marimba, xylophone, and percussion] has played and performed with a variety of musical ensembles ranging from major symphony orchestras to opera houses, and with theatre groups. In drumming circles, Masako was a member of the Tokyo Pipe Band, which competed in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland in 1999. Masako has taught in high schools in Japan as well as in her private studio in Japan. Currently, Masako performs regularly with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, with Aventa, a group specializing in new music, and with Music Corner, a group that reaches out to children through performances in schools.
