Bio
DJ Calhoun [baritone] is a passionate artist committed to his love of opera, art song and musical theatre. Mr Calhoun most recently has been seen in the Arts Club production of Les Misérables, and also continues to do work with the Vancouver Opera, as well as a new group, Il Voce. Mr Calhoun’s operatic credits include: Joe Mackenzie in the world premier of Phyllis Grant Lavelle’s The Ghost in the Turret, Mars in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, Second Priest in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Danilo in Lehar’s The Merry Widow, Falke in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Marcello in Puccini’s La bohème, Sir Joseph Porter KCB in Gilbert and Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore, Major General Stanley in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance, Giuseppe in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Gondoliers, and Frederick in Delibes’ Lakmé, as well as numerous opera excerpts with the UBC Opera Ensemble. Although dedicated to his studies, Mr. Calhoun still finds time to perform publicly. Most recently, Mr Calhoun was the closing performer at Vancouver’s Starry Night’s 20th anniversary gala show, at the historic Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage. He has received many awards and scholarships, all of which confirm his place as one of Canada’s freshest and most talented performers.
