A native of Mexico City, soprano Mariana Valdez is currently studying at the Vancouver Academy of Music.  She has performed with the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra (VYSO) and appeared in several productions of the Opera Studio of the Vancouver Academy of Music as well as recitals with City Opera Vancouver.  Mariana was a prizewinner in vocal competitions in Mexico, and this year won the Kay Meek Scholarship at the Vancouver Academy of Music.  As a recipient of this scholarship, she will be the featured soloist in a concert with the Academy Symphony Orchestra at the Orpheum Theatre.
