Bio
Christie Reside began studying flute at the age of 6. Later she studied at the Banff Centre for the Arts and the International Masterclass Program in Zurich, Switzerland, with teachers such as, Marina Piccinini, James Galway, and Patrick Gallois. In 1994, Christie won 1st prize at the National Music Festival, where she was the youngest competitor at age 14. She received 1st place in the concerto competitions of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and l’Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec. In 2002, Christie earned 2nd place at the International Young Concert Artist’s Competition in England. Christie has performed with the Montreal Symphony, the Calgary Philharmonic, the Victoria Symphony, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and l’Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec. Christie studied at McGill University working toward a double major in music performance on both flute and piano. She left McGill after winning the position of 2nd flute in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at the age of 19. In 2005, she became Principal Flute in the VSO. In 2004 and again in 2005, she was invited to be Acting Principal Flute with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in Kuala Lumpur.
