Bio
A native of Toronto, David Harding [viola] is a graduate of The Julliard School of Music in New York. He has performed as a soloist and with chamber ensembles in Europe, the United States, Canada, and Central America. He regularly performs at Chamber Music festivals throughout North America, and is a member of the Music Toronto Chamber Society, Triskelion string trio and the American String Project. A two-time prize winner of the Sir John Barbirolli award at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition, Mr. Harding was Assistant Principal Viola of the Canadian Opera Company, a member of the Toronto Symphony, and a member of Tafelmusik. Most recently Harding has been a member of both the Chester String Quartet and the Toronto String Quartet and served as Associate Professor, Indiana University at South Bend until his UBC appointment in 1999. Featured in recordings for Sony, Crystal Records, and New Albion Records, his newest CD for CBC Records is of the Bach Goldberg Variations performed with Triskelion. David plays on a viola made by Pietro Antonio dalla Costa, Tresviso, Italy, circa 1750.
