Bio
Fiddler and singer Genie Sittig has been playing music since she was 5, starting out as a classical piano player. Along the way in her musical life she made the jump into bluegrass & old time. She went on to attend the Selkirk College Music program, with a focus on performance, and has been immersed in bluegrass fiddle at Sorrento's BCBG workshops numerous times. Her current projects include: fiddler for Cattle Annie & the Crooked Corral (western swing band with Catherine McGrath, Anneke Rosch, Craig Korth, & Michael Gifford), fiddler for Kootenay Contra Band, & various other old time/traditional music groups. Lately she can be heard trying out the claw-hammer banjo, guitar, singing, & co-hosting Kootenay Co-op radio's “Pickin & Grinnin” (bluegrass & old time) with Jill Zinszer & Eva DeFoor. Genie teaches others to learn to love playing fiddle, piano & guitar at the Moncton School of Music, as well as privately.
