FRANÇOIS HOULE, clarinet
François Houle is a remarkable clarinetist who performs as a soloist, in duo with French pianist Benoît Delbecq, or with his various ensemble projects (Leandre/Graewe/ Houle; John Carter Tribute; Catriona Strang´s Steep Poetry Project; Carmen Perpetuum; Vancouver trio with Tony Wilson/Dylan van der Schyff). He has composed original commissioned works for ensembles such as the NOW Orchestra, Garbo’s Hat, Standing Wave and Frozen Eye Dance. He is also highly involved in the development of contemporary Canadian music, performing with Standing Wave and the Vancouver New Music Ensemble, and collaborating in projects with foremost composers such as Paul Dolden, Sergio Barroso and John Oliver. Recent performances include Canadian and European tours, the Weiner Musik Gallery Let´s Cool One chamber jazz festival, Radio Bremmen´s Pro Musica Nova festival, WDR-Köln Loft, the Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville, New Music Across America, Time Flies Vancouver Company, Seattle´s World Jazz festival, Banlieues Bleues festival in Paris, and the BBC Radio-3´s Impressions.
