Allison Star, piano / harpsichord
Pianist/harpsichordist Dr. Allison Star teaches music as a lecturer in the Department of Continuing Studies, at the University of Victoria. Additionally, she adjudicates across Canada and the U.S., notably as a Senior Examiner with the Royal Conservatory of Music. After completing her Bachelor of Music in Piano (UBC), she was awarded a graduate studies scholarship in Piano Accompaniment from USC (Los Angeles), which allowed her to study with Brooks Smith (renowned for his work with Josef Heifetz) and Jean Barr. Dr. Star has successfully presented her research at numerous professional conferences, winning awards notably from the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the American Musicological Society. She has also published several online resources and articles, particularly in “Musicological Explorations.” Dr. Star uses her academic research to bolster an understanding of musical aesthetics, performance practice, and pedagogy, which she often presents as a lecture-performance; or through a solo or collaborative performance, such as for the celebrated International Beethoven Symposium.
