Akane Setiawan, oboe
Akane Setiawan is originally from Kyoto, Japan. Akane has began playing the piano when she was three, and the oboe at the age of sixteen. She came abroad to Boston to study at The Boston Conservatory, the New England Conservatory and the Longy School of Music, where she has taken lessens with Mr. Keisuke Wakao, associate principal oboist of Boston Symphony Orchestra. She has served as a principal oboist/solo English horn player with several orchestras, as an active chamber player, and as a devoted teacher in Greater Boston Area since 1999 to 2013 until she moved to British Columbia. Akane is a first runner up finalist of English horn audition with Syracuse Symphony, principal oboe audition with Winnipeg Symphony, and principal oboe audition with Vancouver Island Symphony. She lives in Vernon and has performed with Vancouver Symphony, Okanagan Symphony, and Kamloops Symphony.
