Jason Winikoff, percussion

Jason Winikoff is an American drummer and percussionist who blends the sounds of his diverse influences, experiences, and musical background.  He grew up in New Jersey and began studying music at age 9.  Winikoff later moved to New Orleans to study jazz in its birthplace.  He has since travelled extensively – studying traditional percussion in Zambia, Ghana, and Haiti.  The perpetual student, he frequently returns to Africa to continue his musical growth.  Winikoff is currently pursuing his PhD in Ethnomusicology at the University of British Columbia where he will write his dissertation on Zambian ritual percussion and drum timbre.
