Steve Holy, bass

Steve has been playing double bass professionally since 1986. He studied at McGill University and since then has performed and recorded with many of Canada’s finest jazz musicians. He combines a dark rich tone with a buoyant swing feel and an adventurous spirit. He also works by day as a bookseller and practices Zen Buddhism, which informs his bass playing with clarity, spontaneity and hopefully some humility! Steve has performed all over Canada and has been the recipient of two Canada Council study Grants.
