Red Chamber straddles traditional and contemporary, whether it be Chinese court music, Chinese string band music, bluegrass, or fusion.  These virtuosic performers set the stage on fire with hot licks, power and passion!   Red Chamber takes its inspiration from the traditional Chinese "Plucked string" repertoire that is seldom if ever heard in the West and creates a unique combination of Chinese music and Canadian contemporary compositions.  Red Chamber is also exploring other genres of plucked string music like Bluegrass, jazz, and a host of other folk traditions.   Red Chamber is comprised of some of the finest Chinese musicians.  The leader Mei Han is also an internationally recognized zheng (zither) performer and an ethnomusicologist, who has given lectures on Chinese music around the world; Guilian Liu is one of the top pipa (pear shaped lute) masters; Zhimin Yu is a virtuoso on ruan (moon shape lute) and Geling Jiang is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist.
