Martina Smazal [viola] completed her music studies in Canada. During her advanced study period at UBC she also taught viola in the string department. She remains dedicated to teaching, and today is the Director of UBC’s Summer Music Strings Institute. She has been on the faculty of a number of the music academies in Vancouver, and conducted and coached youth orchestras in the Vancouver region. Her teaching shares her life with performing. Martina is a member of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, the Sinfonia of the North Shore, and plays with Ballet BC, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Vancouver Island Symphony, the Abbotsford Symphony, and the National Broadcast Orchestra.  She was a member of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Orchestra.
