Bio
Michael Strutt is one of Canada’s best-known classical guitarists, appreciated both as a concert and recording artist and as an educator. He has performed in all major Canadian cities as well as in England, Spain, the United States and Poland. A former student of Julian Bream in England and Jose Tomas in Spain, Michael has been a faculty member of McGill University in Montreal and the University of Ottawa. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at The University of British Columbia School of Music and Head of the String Division at Douglas College. Recent CD releases include his solos Recuerdos and Farewell to the Mountains, Estampas with the Vancouver Guitar Quartet, Stroll in the Cool and Café Palermo with bassoonist Jesse Read, and a two CD set The River of Golden Dreams with flutist Anne-Elise Keefer. Michael was on the review team that prepared the Toronto Conservatory guitar syllabus and repertoire books, and recently edited and updated the entry on guitar for the Encyclopedia of Music in Canada. Michael is a regular Enrichment Lecturer for Celebrity Cruise Lines.
