Bio
Born in Sorel-Tracy, Québec, Sophie Dansereau [bassoon] discovered the bassoon after playing piano and the flute. She earned the highest honor of the Conservatoire de Musique du Québec in bassoon and chamber music, and received her Master of Music from Yale University. She has performed with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra (New Zealand), the New World Symphony, the Québec Symphony, and enjoys performing at festivals. Sophie is now contrabassoonist and assistant principal bassoonist of the Vancouver Symphony, and principal bassoonist of the CBC Radio Orchestra. Sophie is a founding member of the Admare Wind Quintet, which brings an eclectic repertoire to audiences in Vancouver. Sophie received the Governor General Award for best Academic in 1992. She was on the faculty of the University of British Colombia, and currently is teaching at the Vancouver Academy of Music and in her private studio.
