Bio
Anthony Cheung received a dual degree from the University of Michigan in viola performance (School of Music) and movement science (School of Kinesiology). He is also an American Council on Exercise (ACE) Certified Personal Trainer. He has been principal violist of the Starling Chamber Orchestra, Aspen Concert Orchestra, and a member of the Starling String Quartet. He was a founding member of the Omni String Quartet, which were the Young-Artists-in-Residence at the Strings in the Mountains Festival in 1999 and 2000. Anthony was a prize winner at the 1998 National ASTA Competition, the National Winner of the 1998 Wendell Irish Viola Award, and the 1st Place Winner at the 1998 Chicago Viola Society Competition. In 1999, he received an Honorable Mention and the Wayne Crouse Award for the best performance by a violist at the 1999 International Corpus Christi Young Artists Competition. Anthony was a recipient of the prestigious Martin Luther King Spirit Award in 2000. A founding member of the Infinitus String Quartet, Anthony is currently on faculty with the Young Artist’s Experience Summer Chamber Music Program, a substitute with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and an active freelance musician who performs at benefit concerts and various outreach functions on a regular basis.
